Painting of Shirui lily, rare species of plant found only in the upper reaches of the Shirui hill ranges in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, India.

My father had to drop out couple of his early school years as a child due to financial constraints. He took to full time farming during those years and was heartbroken to be out of school. He shared about the hardship she endured just to get education. He believed in education so much so, even as a child he studied under a lamp post at night, walked miles barefoot from Oinam to Nambol after his early morning chores of farming wiping his muddy feet with hay. That was years ago but we still have many many children who are in situations where they are not able to go to school. It’s the spirit of kindness, the art of giving that keeps the universe beautiful. I painted the beautiful rare Shirui lily for the children of Kanggui Hope. Art products of this painting raised USD 1001 for Kanggui Hope children for their education. I believe that education can take a child places, give freedom and empowerment — it has for me.

Monica has always been interested in art, human expressions and connections as a child. Art and painting provided the calm inner strength, kept her grownded and balanced during the intense grieving period during her father’s passing and things life brings. She volunteered for Art Galleries, took and continues to take art classes, workshop to enhance her understanding and skills of being an artist. She has pledged the funds raised from her paintings to projects of FindingTheVoices and support humane initiatives encountered as part of interviews covered in her talk show. She has successfully raised funds for Palliative Care and children’s education . She is currently on a mission to spread positivity through 1001Thagtachari gratitude project of Manipur and hosting personal growth FindingYourself workshops to elevate self in bringing out the high achiever in each individual.
