Rockville Art League Art League Juried Members’ Winter Show 2020/21
Katherine Nelson’s Juror Statement
… I selected art which was evocative on multiple levels. I sought out artistic expressions where the use of the medium was proficient while the artist also pushed the boundaries of expectation. I searched for artistic compositions that revealed our world in a new perspective while conveying the human condition. I connected with images of life that stirred me to think deeply about what the artist was saying and what they revealed in their topics. Many artworks with a personal window into the artist’s life left me feeling grateful for their view presented in permanent form. How might any one of us approach looking at artist works in the context of 2020? For me, the answer is with fresh eyes on the creative process and the value that art brings to humanity. I am even more grateful for the sheer joy of seeing creative expression in spite of this year. I admire the courage it requires to make art through isolation while also facing unique challenges. To persevere through one of history’s most difficult pandemics and all of its up to the minute game changers and remain steadfast makes each of you a winner…
